Your Morning Paper

I read a status update today that really just got me to thinking.

You know what that means! I hope to get you thinking, too!

I came across a status update by someone I was following and it seemed there was a lot of fear over news headlines. I had no idea what she was talking about. She was alluding to news; but it was one of these where she just hinted at something as if to make the words the followed relevant or something. (Please don’t do this vague crap. Just say what you mean!)

Then there was something that happened at the Grammy’s and I was like, “The Gramm'y’s were last night?” Yeah, I didn’t know.

First of all, I just have to get this off of my chest: If you’re a Christian, why does it surprise you that you are going to be offended by an awards show? (Unless it’s Christian Music Awards, that is. But these days, you’d probably find something offensive about those, too!)

Second of all, I don’t follow the news. I used to follow local news. But now, they just have click bait with sensational headlines and you click on it - and it’s from some town you’ve never heard of it in another state across the country. Me and our local affiliates have very different definitions of “local.” I think it was Darren Hardy that discussed in a video I saw that successful people don’t watch the news. And it makes sense.

News is normally on something that we can neither change nor influence. Often, it robs us of our time and peace when it causes fear, worry, or uncertainty. The culture in Hollywood is getting so toxic that even stars with families are leaving California in search of more peace and certainty for their families. So, why do we give our time and attention to things out of Hollywood like award shows that always have some sort of controversy as they have to continue to ramp up controversy in order to get our attention? I just feel like it is Hollywood’s way of trying to stay relevant. But, that’s just me.

So, this brings me to today’s topic:

I grew up in the days of the morning paper. Our paper actually had an evening edition that my parents elected over the morning one. Dad said the news was a crappy way to start the day. And that was during the days where news actually prided themselves in getting the facts right over sensationalism - there was no click baiting because there were no clicks! HA!

But think on this: What headlines start your day? What is your morning paper? How early in your day do you scroll through the Facebook feed? Check the news?

Why not write your own headlines and then take your day to live into those headlines?

Limit the people / pages you follow on facebook. (You can unfollow someone without unfriending them.) I only allow friends that hit my feed to be people whose posts elevate my day. Everyone else is unfollowed. I rarely see their posts unless I am focusing on a segmented friends list and scroll to find them there. I literally have a segmented list called “Protect Myself” of people I care about / actually know that I have to be in a really strong headspace in order to explore their posts. It’s normally at the end of the day - I don’t want them to detract the joy from my day. At the end of the day, there is a much smaller risk that they can negatively influence my day.

Checking email is rarely a priority. I normally go to my inbox and search for a specific email I might be looking for.

I prefer to start my day with wins. I make my bed. I get sunlight. I listen to high energy, motivating energy. I drink water. I take my spoonful of funky brownie batter (that’s a whole other story ha!) and a shot of liquid collagen. I go for a walk. I write at least two pages in my book. I take actions that get me closer to bigger goals. I read. I pray.

These are the products that help me make the perfect start to my day. Click on each product in the link to check out the details on each one. This is one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time when it comes to my morning ritual and overall energy & health.

When I don’t start my day off in these things, it’s like I live down to headlines that can’t get me in the front pages of the newspaper reporting on my own life. Does that make sense?

I’d like to challenge you to consider your own morning paper. Give it a name if you want to - play with it - have some fun. Because this is your life! This is how you grab hold of your day. Would it be (your name) Journal? (your name) Tribune? (your name) Times? (your name) Herald? (your name) Sentinel? (your name) Observer? (your name) Gazette? (your name) Dispatch? (your name) Standard? (your name) Chronicle? Maybe you have something better?

Whatever the name of your paper, what do you want the headlines to be? How will you live into them?

Would love to hear from you in comments!
